About/ Guild History
Valley Spinners Guild was established in the City of Snohomish in March of 1976. The Guild’s mission is to promote good fellowship and the free exchange of knowledge to all who are interested in spinning and other fiber arts. The creation of this Guild provided a much needed community in fiber arts, creating access to fiber from the farmers, providing spinning support, and connecting the community of fiber enthusiasts. It was not usual to find processed fiber in yarn stores at that time so this opened up a gateway for spinners giving them easier access to fiber.

Initially meeting at member’s homes, the guild grew and prospered requiring larger meeting areas. During the 1990’s through the early 2000’s, monthly meetings were held at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church located on Pine in Snohomish. The meetings were then moved to the First Presbyterian Church on Lake Avenue in Snohomish for a few years. By 2004 it was necessary to move again, this time to the Zion Lutheran Church on Union Avenue in downtown Snohomish where we currently reside. Membership has been as many as 90 members and lows at around 30 members.

Valley Spinner’s Guild has been fortunate to have a great number of members that are skilled in various areas of fiber arts and generously volunteer to help new and current members in their spinning efforts. The Guild has a small library of fiber arts books that are available to check out, a small collection of spinning equipment that can be borrowed which includes carders, drum carders, and other spinning accoutrements. The Guild’s Elected Board and Committee Chairs are all volunteer positions and open to membership in accordance with the Guild’s By-Laws.

Monthly meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month, starting at 7:00 PM. The meetings are led by the Guild President, visitors and new members are introduced, announcements made and other Guild business matters handled. There are monthly programs which the membership can participate in. A few examples are: learning how to process an Alpaca fleece, Easter Egg Dyeing, and learning how to spin cable yarn. Programs are optional to attend. There is a brief break where refreshments can be indulged in and time to visit with other members.
One of the nicest things about Valley Spinner’s Guild is that you have access to support for your fiber arts. Our members are very giving and knowledgeable, presenting programs and mentoring new spinners. You do not have to be a member to attend the meetings but you do need to be a member to receive the monthly newsletter and to participate in programs.
